Grønne Salon
An historical atmosphere
In many ways, the Grønne Salon is the very centre of Moltkes Palæ. Situated between the Christian X’s Salons and the Dronninggaard Salon, the Grønne Salon is distinctive in both its style and ambiance.
With its green tones and gilded ornamentation, the room exudes a positive and historical atmosphere. The Grønne Salon is the most regal venue to be found anywhere in the vicinity of Moltkes Palæ. After the Christiansborg Palace fire of 1794, Dowager Queen Juliana Maria purchased Moltkes Palæ as her temporary residence, and the Grønne Salon served as her sitting room during this time.
When the Dowager Queen passed away, merchant Constantin Brun acquired the mansion, and he lived here with his wife Friederike for more than 40 years. Friederike was a successful author and a sophisticated, well-travelled woman with an unusual personality, and she in particular enjoyed holding salons in the mansion. At these salons, she played host to many prominent Danish artists, writers and intellectuals. We can imagine that the Grønne Salon was used for this very purpose. The Grønne Salon has served as the setting for noteworthy personalities over the years.
